Serve God by Serving Others

Serving is what Believers are called to do. Jesus served by feeding multitudes, healing the sick, and washing the disciples’ feet. Jesus even spent time with rejected castaways. His benevolent spirit should be revered and imitated. Christ calls on us to leverage our unique talents to serve. Consider how your God-given gifts and abilities can bless others.

"In everything I showed you (by example) that by working hard in this way you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed (and brings greater joy) to give than to receive.'" Acts 20:35 AMP

We can also serve as prayer partners calling to check on friends and church members or simply spending time with those who may be lonely or grieving. Believers make a difference by being present. Serve and lead non-believers so that they may see God’s light. In that, serving becomes a form of discipleship. Donating to a local charity, a co-worker’s kid’s fundraiser, or paying tithes are also ways to serve.

"Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interest of others." Philippians 2:4 AMP

Volunteering has always been a part of my life. In college, I was the recipient of a volunteer-based scholarship which allowed me to serve with an after-school program for students at a low-income housing authority. During the week, I enjoyed assisting elementary school students with homework; fostered strong relationships; and inspired them to improve academically and socially. Additionally, I have volunteered as a Troop Leader with Girl Scouts for six years. What a rewarding experience to see young girls develop leadership skills, confidence, and just have fun. If you would like to volunteer, pray and ask God how to manage this with your busy schedule.

Lastly, in serving others, we serve God. However, prioritize serving God Himself. Serving Christ through praise, songs, and obeying His Word are ways we serve our Father. Keep Him close and live according to His commandments.

"Serve the Lord with gladness and delight; Come before His presence with joyful singing." Psalms 100:2 AMP
